About Us

Dallas Hoodoo Society is born of a need for community and collective energy to venerate our ancestors and use their intelligence to guide our way forward.

We affirm that Hoodoo is a complete religious system on its own and it's a practice that others merge with other religious systems.

We affirm that Hoodoo is indigenous to those of us who were kidnapped and trafficked from Africa to North America and is born of our traditional African religious systems.

We affirm that Hoodoo is central and descriptive of Black culture.

We affirm that Hoodoo is independent of other Eurocentric and non-Black systems. We affirm that those systems often appropriate stolen knowledge of our indigenous Black practices and modalities.

We affirm that Hoodoo evolves and varies due to cultural patterns based on regional differences and trafficking routes from Africa and the Maafa.

We affirm that Hoodoo requires initiation of which there are complex, variable, and multi-level rites.

We affirm that Hoodoo requires community, learning from our elders, and collective power.

We affirm that Hoodoo centers gender equality, sexual freedom, liberation, protection, interdependence, nature, and balance.

We affirm that Hoodoo is all US.
